AR Is Going To Be The Death Of The Smartphone
According to resources, Augmented Reality (AR) is going to be the cause of the death of the smartphone. Some even say that artificial intelligence will be replacing smartphones as soon as 2021.
At first however, it seems like AR will be integrated into the functions of a smartphone and applications on the phone will be supporting various ways in which AR can be implemented into our daily lives. The Lenovo Phablet 2 Pro is a good example of how it will seemingly be introduced, and from there it will become more refined and implemented in other ways with different devices.
As a matter of fact, there are a few apps that already make use of augmented reality. It might not seem too extreme or ‘out there’ as you might imagine, but this is definitely the start of where things are heading. Take a look at the video below:

Now imagine what you have just seen, be available without using a smartphone. Mark Zuckerberg has a vision of a ‘screenless’ world, where we will be using a set of glasses to do everything that we use in our every day lives. Phones, tablets and TVs will be made redundant and be replaced by this special set of glasses.
At this point in time (and for quite some time to come), there is still a large amounts of money in the smartphone and TV production industry. So the idea of a ‘screenless’ world is still quite some time aways from becoming the norm. That being said, this is where the future seems to be heading.
So, even though we have only entered the world of AR in some form, we have only scratched the surface of this amazing new world. As Gary Vaynerchuk has predicted, artificial intelligence is something to get highly excited about.
Even though this is all very exciting and ground breaking, I fail to see where the function of phoning someone (which is supposed to be the primary function of a phone) is built in on the future devices of AR. Will this function be built into the glasses? Will there be earphones attached to the glasses?
